EV Charging Connector
There are three main types of EV charging connectors – rapid, fast, and slow. These represent the power outputs, and therefore charging speeds, available to charge an EV. Note that power is measured in kilowatts (kW).
Each charger type has an associated set of connectors that are designed for low- or high-power use, and for either AC or DC charging.
EV charging connector or plug type standards vary by region and model. Although there is controversy surrounding the universal plug technology. But global automakers supporting the Combined Charging System (CCS) in North America and Europe have reached critical mass. Japan and its automakers use CHAdeMO. China has the world’s largest electric vehicle market using the national standard/ton.
